With their season hanging by a thread after a much-needed win a week earlier, Melbourne travelled to Adelaide as underdogs against one of the competition's top sides. In a bizarre match they kicked their only two goals of the game in the opening quarter, then saw their lead slowly ebb away at each change as the Crows blew a string of golden chances to kick a second goal that would have won them the low scoring match. The Demons held on to win, leaving their slim finals hopes still intact.
