After raising their 2022 spring season flag before the game, Melbourne kicked the first goal through Alyssa Bannan before having to fight back to win. Collingwood kicked the next four goals to open a 14 point lead midway through the second term. The margin was reduced when Georgia Campbell goalled with her first kick in league football, after playing her first game the previous year.

The eight point gap at the break was quickly overrun, as Melbourne piled on 5.4 to a point in a dominant third quarter. Shelley Heath quelled the dangerous Brianna Davey and got forward for two goals in the second half, doubling her career tally. By three quarter time the deficit had been turned into a match-winning 22 point lead, and another three goals to nil in the last term.

Best were Hanks, Mithen and Bannan,
