Melbourne kicked off their season with a comfortable win, set up by a strong first quarter into the wind. Despite only kicking 1.6 with the breeze in the second term, and the Bulldogs briefly reducing the margin to 11 points during the third, the Demons were not seriously challenged again.
With her second goal, the last of the game, Kate Hore passed Tegan Cunningham to become the club's all-time top goalkicker.
Best were Zanker, Birch and Hanks.
