Recruited in 1959 after training with Footscray and Collingwood, the follower was given number 50 for 1959 Seconds that year.

Between 1960 and 1963 he wore number 3 but failed to play a senior match. In 1961 he was promoted to the senior list.

In 1962 he had a finger injury in the pre-season, then returned to training and injured his knee. He battled through most of the season to try and find fitness, before undergoing a cartilage operation. He returned to playing in 1963 but couldn't break out of the Reserves, then suffered strained back ligaments and then a relapse of his knee injury.

He was appointed captain/coach of Hamilton in 1964. Hugh Bromell came the other way from Hamilton.

Captained the reserves around the early 1960's.
