Another week, another heartbreaking loss for the Redlegs who had now suffered defeat three weeks in a row after a fighting last quarter comeback.
Despite being ravaged by the flu Carlton managed to take a big lead into quarter time after booting five straight. Melbourne's comeback powers were about to be put to the test again.
They left themselves in an even bigger hole against the Blues by going into the last quarter 34 points behind. They stormed home to get within striking distance but time ran out.
Best were Makin, Percy Wilson and Chadwick.
