On a cold night, Melbourne drew their lowest home crowd since 2021, but got off to a quick start with five of the six first goals. Their attacking woes returned after the first change, and the Giants drew to within three points by quarter time. They took the lead in the third term, and even after Melbourne briefly snatched it back late in the quarter, the Giants responded almost immediately to retake the lead.

The game was lost early in the final term when GWS kicked four goals in five minutes. A Jacob van Rooyen goal from a stoppage gave Melbourne some hope, before Kade Chandler and Kysaiah Pickett drew them within range. Alex Neal-Bullen kicked a goal with a minute left to reduce the margin to under a goal, but Melbourne was unable to get the ball forward from the next centre bounce and ran out of time. The defeat, and other results in the round, left Melbourne a game and percentage outside the top eight and with their finals hopes nearly dead.

Best were Clayton Oliver, Trent Rivers, and Jack Viney. Daniel Turner replaced Jack Billings in the fourth quarter.
