After five losses in a row, Melbourne took on a side below them on the ladder and won comfortably after being challenged for three quarters. After taking a two goal lead early in the first quarter, the home side trailed at quarter time and didn't kick away until two late goals in the third quarter.

Jake Melksham became the first Melbourne player to kick more than four goals in three consecutive games in over 20 years.

Late in the fourth quarter, Tom Sparrow was knocked out by an errant fist to the face from North ruckman Tristan Xerri. The game was stopped for several minutes while he was moved from the field.

Best were Fritsch, Melksham, and Petracca.

Caleb Windsor replaced Xavier Lindsay in the third quarter. Koltyn Tholstrup was fined for engaging in a melee/wrestle. Tom McDonald replaced Steven May (illness) in the selected side.

The attendance was the second largest home and away crowd ever between the sides.
