Doyle played two games for St Kilda during 1990, before playing in Dandenong's 1991 VFA premiership. After being voted best on ground in a representative game against the Victorian Country Football League, Melbourne took a chance on Doyle in the 1992 mid-season draft but he didn't play a game until the next year.
He managed just two games in his first year - winning a Reserves premiership - but played 13 games in a much improved 1994 team. His last two seasons yielded just seven games each.
At Traralgon in 1997 before joining Frankston in 1998, Doyle Captain/Coached Rye from 2000 to 2002. He was also an assistant at the TAC Cup Oakleigh Chargers from 2005 to 2008 and the Victoria Metro team in 2009 and 2010 before being appointed head coach of the Chargers in 2011.
