In perfect conditions the Cats were too quick for the Demons and racked up a comfortable pre-season victory.
A short lived revival in the second quarter was led by Crosswell kicking two goals in two minutes, but the Cats steadied to take a five goal lead into the half. Geelong dominated the rucks and their repeated forward attacks were too much for a brave but beaten Melbourne backline. Captain-Coach Ditterich started in a back-pocket but didn't reemerge after half time.
Best for the Demons were Elshaug and Graham Gaunt.
