"Nipper" Young was a fine centreman who good pace and ball handling ability, Young was in the middle when the Fuschias shocked the football world by winning the 1900 Grand Final against Fitzroy.

Young was the first man to play 100 games for Melbourne. His VFL career came to an end after the 1904 season when he moved to Adelaide.
