With their season in trouble after losses to both 2023 Grand Final teams, Melbourne travelled to Perth and got off to a quick start with four first quarter goals. Their scoring dried after after the first change, but a strong defensive effort held the Dockers to just three goals, and the visitors held an 18 point lead at the final break. They failed to score in the last quarter, and were gradually run-down by the Dockers. The game looked set for a draw when Kate Hore was caught holding the ball in the dying seconds. With any score enough for Freo to win, Aisling McCarthy goalled to make sure of the result and leave Melbourne's finals hopes in tatters.
Best were McNamara, Goldrick and Hore. Grace Hill replaced Grace Beasley (knee) in the selected side.,
