Melbourne win by 9 points
Matched up against the reigning NAB Cup premiers Melbourne were wasteful early and failed to capitalise on their good play against a Magpies side that was depleted but still full of premiership stars.
With their own side injury riddled the Demons took until the third quarter to fire, opening up a 24 point lead before the Magpies stormed back to get within a goal on the siren when Heath Shaw booted a nine point goal.
Melbourne briefly surrendered the lead at the start of the last term before steading and building up a match winning lead. Collingwood struck again at the end of the term but it was too late, Melbourne keeping their slim hopes of playing in the NAB Cup final alive.
Best were Magner, Petterd and Jones.
