Originally from Scotch College, the MCC amateur cricketer who also played for the football club from 1860 until at least 1866. From 1859 to 1861 he also played for South Yarra, and in 1861 for Richmond as well.
He also played for St Kilda in 1860, Carlton from 1866 to 1871 while making some appearances for his hometown side Emerald Hill/Albert Park in 1868 and 1869. He was eventually forced into the retirement after suffering a leg injury.
Conway played for cricket clubs including St Kilda, East Melbourne, Melbourne and South Melbourne. He played in the first ever Victorian match against a touring English team and later managed the first white Australian test cricket team to England in 1878 and played 10 first class matches for Otago and Victoria between 1861 and 1880.
Some sources show him being from Melbourne Grammar and being born in 1842.
