In a King's Birthday clash at the MCG the Redlegs were given a serious scare against a St Kilda side who they had an excellent record against on their home soil in recent years.
At three quarter it time it looked like a hopeless cause for the home side befoire they flew home to snatch victory by keeping the visitors to two behinds in the final term.
Melbourne's best were Deane, Vine and Warne-Smith.
