Another week, another score of over a hundred points for the Demons as they racked up their fourth straight victory and took sole possession of top spot on the VFL ladder.
Norm Smith was his side's best man in the first half, kicking five goals by half time, but he should have had more but for wasteful kicking. He faded out of the game in the second half but the damage had already been done. The Pies may have benefited from Smith's wasteful kicking but Melbourne got a free ride from their entire side who kicked woefully.
At the other end Emselle was the best defender, while Murnane and Baggott also won praise. McGrath came on to the ground with two minutes to play.
