West Coast went in as red hot favourites in Alice Springs, and when they led by 32 points early in the second quarter it looked like a huge win was on the cards. Melbourne fought back, led by four goals by Bayley Fritsch to take the lead early in the third quarter. They had it again at the last change but conceded four goals to one in the final term to lose.
Best were Oliver, Fritsch and Harmes. Viney was concussed and May injured his hamstring.
