Two disappointing teams met in a late season match that meant nothing more than the chance to salvage some pride.
Melbourne had the run of the match in the first quarter, and took a narrow lead into the first break. From then on the Dogs ran them off their feet. Midfield dominance helped them to take a slight lead into half-time. David Neitz kicked three but didn't score after the ten minute mark of the second term - his service was poor.
Seven goals in a row for the Dogs were only broken by a Cameron Bruce effort on the siren which gave Melbourne some hope of getting back into it. Three goals in a row in the last cut the gap to 14 points, but the Bulldogs booted two more to seal the deal and consign the '03 Demons to yet another depressing defeat.
Best were Heffernan, Bizzell and Brown.
