Two weeks after the Demons seemingly revived a fading season by regaining top spot in a thumping win over Brisbane, lost another first vs second clash. They got off to a quick start with the first two goals of the game but were quickly pegged back, losing the lead by quarter time. The game became a stalemate in the second term before the home side established a mini-break in the third term.

Melbourne got the margin back to nine points in the last quarter before the Cats kicked away to win easily.

Best were Viney, Oliver and May. Oliver suffered a thumb injury. Jayden Hunt was an unused substitute.
