A week after winning their first game for two months Melbourne plummeted back to earth against a far superior team. Despite Johnson upping his total to 19 goals over the previous fortnight he didn't have enough other contributors - and the defence leaked 35 scoring shots down the other end.
The game was over at quarter time as the Tigers stormed to a 49 point lead. Melbourne only lost another point over the course of the game, but it helped that they kicked six goals in the last quarter.
It was Melbourne's best score at Punt Road since their last win there in 1926.
Johnson, Longhurst and Jones were best. Ogden suffered a broken nose.
