Member of the 1992 Victorian Under 15s Schoolboy team and 1995 TAC Cup player of the year who appeared as a Supplementary Player in the Melbourne Reserves in 1996.

Played for Traralgon in 1997 before joining Williamstown in 1998.

In 2011 Railton was an Assistant coach to Brett Lovett at Sandringham Zebras, and followed him to Casey Demons in 2012. At the end of that season he returned to Wonthaggi as senior coach, marking the first time in nine years he hadn't been Lovett's assistant.
