Recruited by Hawthorn after kicking 148 goals in the Eastern Suburban League, Hall booted five goals on debut for Hawthorn in the second last game of 1938. He added another two in the final round but didn't play another game for them.
Dropped from Hawthorn's list early in the 1939 season despite seven goals in an early Seconds game, Hall was cleared to Melbourne in June that year. He didn't get past the Seconds despite two nine goal hauls in the first half of 1940.
Returned to the club in the 1944 pre-season after serving in the AIF during World War II but did not play in a senior game.
