Topped the St Kilda goalkicking in 1915, his first season, but didn't play again until 1919 due to the first World War. In 1916 he enlisted in the army, and that year played in a match for servicemen in London in front of spectators including the Prince of Wales and King Manuel of Portugal.
He returned in 1921 and topped the Saints goalkicking every year until 1923. He initially retired at the end of that year, before making a comeback during 1924.
Moyes joined Melbourne in 1925, and was a key member of the 1926 premiership team, a year in which he was the third highest goalkicker in the league.
He represented the VFL against Gippsland in 1927 before retiring at the end of the season. In 1929 he coached amateur side East Malvern.
In 1999 he was named in the Melbourne Grammar Team of the Century.
