Davie was promoted from the juniors after 51 goals in 1924, a year where he'd also played for the league seconds in a representative team. Davie kicked six in each of his first two games, and his haul on debut is still the club record for a first game player. In Round 14, 1925 he put Carlton to the sword at Princes Park with a haul of 13.5, a total at the ground that wouldn't be equalled until the 1990's. He was later presented with the ball, silver plated and mounted on a stand.
Despite having kicked 50 goals during the season, and another eight for Victoria against New South Wales, he missed the triumphant 1926 finals series through injury.
He initially sought a clearance to Carlton before 1927 but remained at Melbourne where he kicked 40 goals. When the side missed the final four the next year he requested a clearance again and this time it was granted. Despite kicking almost three goals a game in his nine games with the Blues he never settled. In 1929 he coached Prestige in the pre-season then joined Preston, where he remained through at least 1933.
