Former Demons Seconds centre and rover first recruited in 1955. He went to Ballarat the next year, trained with Melbourne in the 1957 pre-season, then joined VFA side Moorabbin. He remained there through 1959, returning to Melbourne again in the 1958 pre-season.

He was assigned number 34 in his comeback year, and impressed in the practice matches - including one haul of four goals - but did not play seniors and was cleared back to Moorabbin before Round 7.

21-years-old in 1958. Possibly the R. Evans who played thirds in 1955. Not the R. Evans who wore #42 in 1959.
