200cm ruckman who debuted for the Sandringham seniors in 2005 but only played one VFL game due to injury.
He was delisted at the end of that year, and joined Benalla in the Goulburn Valley Laegue in 2006. With ex-Blue Mark Porter holding down the first ruck spot at Benalla, Van Schaik moved to Wangaratta the next season.
From 2009 to 2011 he played for Greta in the Ovens & King Football League, then for Berrigan.
