Melbourne travelled to Western Australia for their only official game of the pre-season. They welcomed Christian Petracca back for his first game since suffering serious internal injuries in Round 13, 2024, but lost full forward Jacob van Rooyen to back spasms after their first inside 50 of the game. The visitors had opportunities in the first quarter, and despite inaccuracy were a point ahead before the Dockers kicked a goal on the siren. In the second quarter Freo dominated, kicking five goals to nil before the Demons launched a fightback midway through the third quarter. They were unable to get closer than three goals behind, and the margin remained similar for the rest of the match.
Best were Oliver, Petracca, and Lever.
