1936 Seconds Semi Final

Saturday 19 September - MCG

Melbourne 3.3, 5.6, 10.7, 16.10.106
Collingwood 1.1, 5.6, 8.7, 12.8.80

Melbourne win by 26 points

Goalkickers: Ken Feltscheer 5, Munday 4, Bill Adams 3, Oakley 1, Harold Ball 1, Ron Barassi 1, Roberts 1

The sides finished first and second respectively and played off for the chance to go straight to the Second Eighteens Grand Final, whereas the loser would play Footscray in a preliminary final.

After an even first half where Collingwood's defence had proved difficulty to breach Melbourne pulled away to win comfortably. If the Magpies hadn't been as weak forward as they were strong back there might have been a different result. Melbourne opened a 12 point lead with the last two goals of the third quarter, then kicked six goals to four in the last quarter to register a handy victory.

The match was played with a number of incidents, and Colin Wilcox was carried off with severe concussion after being felled behind play.

Kelly, Ball and Dean were Melbourne's best. Miller was reported for attempting to strike.
