Wednesday 2 August - Wagga
Melbourne 3.4, 11.10, ?, 18.22.130
Wagga League 4.6, 7.9, ?, 15.15.105
Melbourne win by 25 points
Goalkickers: Harry Brereton 4, Bill Hendrie 3, Ted Politz 3, Hedley Tomkins 3, Ross 1, Ben Sheppard 1, Wally Sykes 1, Unknown 2,
The game started 30 minutes late due to issues with Wagga fielding a full side, and in the end they had to use two of Melbourne's reserves - including Jimmy Nolan - to play with the same numbers.
Despite this handicap they had the better of the early play. It took until midway through the quarter, with Wagga holding a lead, for the Reds to improve and introduce precise passing into their game.
The two sides traded goals early in the second quarter but Wagga started to tire. Tomkins gave his side the lead and they never handed it back again. They opened up a lead of over four goals at half time, but after the break Wagga dominated and kicked the first 20 points of the third term.
Melbourne then steadied, kicking the last two goals of the quarter while holding Wagga to a point in the same time.
Notes
Some sources have the scores as 121-105, and some as 131-105.
