Played on an end of season trip to Tasmania, the exhibition game between two VFL sides was ruined by a blustery cross wind. The weather had already kept the crowd down, and the tricky breeze further affected the spectacle.
The wind also affected scoring, with Melbourne opening the game with a 24-0 first quarter but only scoring one goal into the breeze all day. That was enough to win the game, Carlton's total against the wind was 0.2. Both teams took the game seriously leading to a serious of collisions that left several Blues hobbling early in the game.
A wind-assisted 33 point lead at half time looked to be match-winning, before Carlton charged home. They were wasteful with their opportunities, kicking 3.9 to fall a goal short.
Best were Dixon, Barassi and Lord. Wilson. Williams, Marquis and Mithen also played.
