A premiership player in his one season with the Scotch side in 1900, Hayman started his senior career locally with Hawthorn before being recruited to the VFL in 1906.
He played just one season of senior football, but remained with the club through 1907 and went on a mid-year tour of Tasmania.
Hayman was cleared to South Australian side North Adelaide in April 1910, playing two games for them that year.
