In their second last game of their worst VFL season yet, Melbourne suffered the biggest humiliation of all when they were massacred by the Maroons. The Reds were undermanned without Sowden, J. Purse, Strong and Henderson and the game was over at quarter time when Fitzroy kicked with the wind and booted six goals in a row before they had a point, then another 3.9 for the rest of the term.
Sadly for Melbourne after they had gone 51 points down at quarter time the breeze died off and offered them no benefits. They managed just 1.1, were kept scoreless in third and conceded four goals to two in the last quarter.
Best were Leith, Pearce and Sleeman.
