Recruited after starring in a VAFA representative team against the VFA in June 1985, Eishold debuted as a midfielder in early 1986. He was lightly used in his first two seasons, but was called up for Melbourne's 1987 finals campaign, holding his spot for all three games.
On the verge of becoming a regular senior player in 1988, his career was put on hold for three months after suffering a broken collarbone in Round 6. He returned for one game late in the year but didn't play finals. He also missed the 1989 finals series, this time after playing 16 games then injuring his ankle
Eishold's best season was 1990, despite missing a month with a knee injury after a Round 1 collision with teammate Steven Clark, he played 20 games, including two finals. Eishold had more injury trouble in 1991, a broken thumb in Round 4 keeping him out of the game until Round 14. He had a delayed start to 1992 after injuring his knee in a practice match against Richmond and played just five games all year.
Delisted at the end of 1992, Eishold signed to coach Hobart in 1993 but left after a month when the club couldn't secure him employment. He continued to train with Melbourne before following John Northey to Richmond as pick #51 in the 1993 Pre-Season Draft. He played five more games before leaving the Tigers. Eishold then joined Echuca, winning the Goulburn League award for best player in 1995 and coaching them to a premiership in 1997. Played for Bundoora in 1999.
