In front of a big, holiday enhanced Queen's Birthday crowd the Demons had to fight all the way against the Eagles who had disappointed that season but eventually did enough to win.

West Coast got within 13 points in the last quarter but it never looked like they had it in them to win. In a battle of the defences Garry Lyon and Alan Johnson were dominant, and with Steven Stretch running off half back time and time again they led at every change and held off the final term fightback to register a ninth win of the season and moved to third place on the ladder - only kept off top by an inferior percentage.

Best were Johnson, Lyon and Stretch
