Albiston was a rover/forward who spent six years at Richmond for 58 games before crossing to Melbourne. He was one of the few league players to kick on both feet in his era, but he had taught himself to use his left foot while recovering from an injury to the right.

He added another 45 games to his tally and ending his career after the losing 1954 Grand Final. He was runner-up in the league's Gardiner Medal for Best and Fairest in the Seconds competition during his last year.

Moved to Ringwood in 1955 and coached them to premierships that year, 1956 and 1957.

Brother of Alec (Hawthorn) and Harold (Collingwood/Hawthorn)
