In a match played on Show Day the two sides were both to blame for the game being rougher than necessary, but Melbourne's vigour unnerved their opponents who were unable to match them.

Using the wind, Melbourne shot away to a near five goal lead at quarter time. They extended the gap to over eight at the half and narrowly increased the margin across the last two quarters.

Rennie, Davidson and Lindsay were best.
