Ruckman recruited in 1959, after already training with Footscray and Camberwell during the pre-season. His club initially refused Melbourne's application for a clearance, but they eventually relented and he played centre half-forward for the Seconds during the year.
Returned to take part in 1960 pre-season training but did not appear in the seniors.
