The son of Lloyd Burgmann was recruited under the father/son rule. In 1990 he played in Victoria's winning Teal Cup side before returning to the Dees where he was best on ground in the losing 1990 Under 19s Grand Final, playing Reserves the next season.
Burgmann played at centre half-back in the last game of 1992, but it was his only senior appearance. He couldn't break out of the Reserves in 1993 and was delisted at the end of the year. That season he was named in the NSW/ACT State of Origin squad but didn't play. He spent the 1994 pre-season with Hawthorn, and stayed with their Reserves after not being drafted.
Played at Springvale in 1995 and captained Frankston from 1999 to 2002. Coach of Noble Park from 2005 to 2007.
His grandfather Jack played one game for Richmond in 1938.
