After continuing their winning streak with a 20 goal win over North Melbourne, the Demons travelled to Glenferrie Oval for what seemed like another easy victory against one of the league's easybeats.
Melbourne got the job done, but it was a tougher than expected struggle. A six goal to one third quarter gave them a winning margin, but with their use of the wind the Hawks booted six goals to one to reduce the gap to a respectable one.
Best were Fischer, Mueller and Baggott.
