Biggest win against South Melbourne

Four straight wins since a disappointing result in Round 1 had put Melbourne back into the top four, and they further enhanced their credability as a premiership contender with a thumping victory over South.

That South even managed to keep the loss to 'only' 107 points was amazing considering that they were 11 goals behind at half time and were then reduced to 17 men through injury in the third term. Melbourne had well and truly done the damage by then and were content to run away with an easy fifth straight win.

The margin of victory drastically increased Melbourne's percentage, allowing them to take second place on the ladder.

Mueller, Beames and Baggott were best. 19th man Truscott replaced Gibb (strained ankle) in the last quarter.
