With the Demons coming off two enormous defeats only to run into the dominant Cats at Kardinia Park - where they usually didn't win even when they were at the right end of the ladder - most talked this game as a potentially record breaking slaughter. In head-to-head betting some agencies were offering as much as $34 on a Melbourne victory.
Melbourne shocked Kardinia Park with the first three goals of the game before the Cats steadied and beat a much improved Demon side.
Best were Bruce, McLean and P. Johnson
