Melbourne's 100th VFL match.ended in defeat. They had been the better side in the first half, but inaccuracy had them behind at the break. The home side then kicked three goals to one in the third quarter to take the advantage, further extending the margin in the final term.
At the conclusion of the game Geelong president HB Hodges hosted Melbourne's players and committee in the club's pavilion. He proposed a toast to the club and to captain Bill McLelland. Mention was also made to the presence of Fred McGinis, who had recently been forced to retire due to eye issues.
