Despite having a week off for the split round and still being in the mix for a finals birth despite two lossses the Demons were thrashed. North cut Melbourne to shreds with handball and racked up their biggest ever score against the Demons.
Melbourne had shocked the Roos in the opening game of the season but they had no answers to the Roos on the vast expanses of Waverley Park. An extra knife in the back for the Demons was the best on ground form of Peter Keenan who had walked out on the club during the off-season.
Bob Skilton called his side a disgrace, but as guilty as his side were it would have been hard for any side to beat North on the day.
Best were Wells, Guy and Osborne. Kelly was replaced by Ray Smith in the third quarter and Hardeman (ankle) by Keays at three quarter time. Steven Smith injured his thigh, Alves his ribs and Brewer his hamstring.
