A series of defeats had dropped the Demons out of the top four and down to eighth on the ladder, before they steadied by beating the Mayblooms who were second last on the table - only percentage above Geelong.
In greasy conditions Melbourne had to come from behind to take the points, going into the final change seven points behind and kicking 5.8 to run over the top of the visitors. Rain and a gale force wind in the last quarter helped the comeback.
