1951 pre-season rover who trained at Melbourne after winning the Best and Fairest award for the A-Section amateur competition. He wanted to join Melbourne, but St Kilda claimed he was zoned to them. Manson refused to join them and remained in the amateur ranks. In 1954 he returned to training, claiming that he now lived in unallotted territory and was free to join the Demons.
Manson represented Victoria in the 1953 national amateur carnival.
