Saturday 30 June - MCG
Melbourne 0.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0
Geelong 1.2, 3.6, 4.11, 7.14
Geelong win by 7 goals
Goalkicker: A. King 1
Melbourne had been unexpectedly detained on their way back from a trip to Queensland and New South Wales, only arriving home on Friday afternoon. They were not in first class condition, and were easily beaten accordingly.
Geelong too were not at full strength, missing several players who were unable to play. To further complicate the quality of the game, an erratic breeze interfered with the flight of the ball. What advantage the breeze did give, Melbourne had in the first quarter but they failed to have one scoring shot. Geelong pushed them back to their line immediately, and stayed camped there for the rest of the game.
Things didn't get much better for the Reds in the second quarter. They got one goal, but often fell down on rare forward attacks because their forwards were playing out of position. After half time Geelong were dominant, running way to an easy win.
Best were Griffiths, Hallett, Lording
