Saturday 29 August - Melbourne Ground
Crowd: 4000
Melbourne 2
Albert Park 0 (half time 1-0)
Goalkickers: Austin Loughnan 1, Bob Sillett 1
The visitors flew in the face of conventional wisdom and kicked into the wind. They were lucky not to concede early when Davidson marked directly in front, not far out but missed. After 20 minutes of dominating the play Melbourne's captain called for a head count, where it was discovered that they had 21 on the field instead of 20.
Melbourne had multiple chances, and the first goal eventually came via Loughnan. Albert Park's gamble failed, as there was little difference to the complexion of the game in the second half. The home side continued to pepper the goals, breaking through for a second to Sillett with 15 minutes to play.
Best were Kneen, Forrester and Moore.
