Invited to the club by Jack Mueller, O'Callaghan played in the Thirds during 1951 and 1952. His second season was cut short after suffering a broken leg. He returned to play Seconds in 1953 and 1954.

He then played for the De La Salle amateur team from 1955 to 1959.

O'Callaghan's son John played with the club in 1986.
