Casey qualified for the finals after a big win in the Wildcard Game, but lost the service of several AFL listed players and were comfortably beaten. The margin was over five goals in the second quarter before two quick Casey goals gave them hope approaching half time, before the Dogs responded with two of their own to take a 35 point lead into the half. A six goal to one third quarter sealed victory, ending Casey's premiership defence.
