In their first big test for the year, the Demons were unable to match the home side. Their forward line failed to fire for the first time all season, and while a combination of strong defence and wasteful kicking by the Crows kept the margin down, Melbourne was unable to put together a competitive score for the first three quarters. They started the last term goalless, before kicking the final three of the match to make the score look more respectable.
Best were Goldrick, McNamara and L. Pearce. Lauren Pearce had an ankle injury.
