On a hot afternoon, the young North Melbourne side looked dead and buried when they conceded 6.5 to 0.4 in the second quarter. Then they turned the tables on the Demons in the third, kicking 6.1 to 1.5. It set up a last quarter where the result wasn't determined until the final minutes.
An angry John Northey said: "after half-time they threw the ball around too much and started doing silly, stupid handballs. Maybe they felt they were just going to run away with the game, but they're professional footballers playing against professional footballers and they can't afford to do that."
Best were G. Lovett, Stretch and Lyon. Steven Clark suffered concussion.
